Taxpayer Movement Urges Cong. Obey to Say 'No' to Funding Abortion
Chairman by
Family Research Council
WASHINGTON, D.C. -Tomorrow, Family Research Council will
deliver a petition with 45,000 signatures to Congressman
David Obey's (D-WI) offices in Washington, D.C., and his
Wisconsin district, urging him to use his position as
chairman of the House Appropriations Committee to ensure
that taxpayers are not forced to pay for abortion on demand.
The House Appropriations Committee plays a key role in
deciding the fate of 20 laws that ensure that U.S. taxpayers
are not forced to hand-over their hard-earned dollars to pay
for and promote abortion on demand.
"Congress has enacted these rules consistently for the past
three decades," said Family Research Council President Tony
Perkins "Congressman Obey is known for his work on education
and ethics reform. To repeal these laws would tarnish his
legacy and turn him into a veritable abortion czar."
"Chairman Obey has the most power of any member of Congress
to prevent the repeal of these wise and settled laws. These
rules consist of the Hyde Amendment, conscience protections,
and numerous other reasonable policies that the American
people widely support. We hope Congressman Obey will act to
keep Congress - and us taxpayers - out of the abortion
business."
