RED STATE by
Mike Hodge
Global warming, real or not? Ask some and they swear we’re destroying the Earth by driving SUV’s, using candescent light bulbs, and not conserving energy. They say it’s better
to pay more for gas, hybrid cars and environment saving light bulbs.
Well, let’s see, President-elect Obama is ok with $4-$6 a gallon for gasoline, he said so during his campaign. He just wished it hadn’t risen so rapidly. The hybrid cars take
several years to off-set the difference in the price versus the savings generated. Those light bulbs that help the environment, well if you break them, contain
hazardous chemicals. It seems that once the bulb breaks it becomes dangerous to the environment that it supposedly saves. Sounds like another example of “do as I say, not as
I do” from the liberals.
I even had to get my global warming coat and gloves out to wear earlier. I believe there is some global warming happening, but nowhere
near the extremes the liberals say and it’s more natural than man made. There are common sense conservation practices that we can and should be
doing to help the environment. One
of the liberals goals is to get rid of
oil , thus gasoline. It’s all about the
more expensive, alternative energy.
We learned when gas prices hit $4 a
gallon that the American economy
was not built to withstand those
prices. Supply and demand took effect
and we changed our driving habits and
the prices started to come
back down.
The US can’t afford
the cap and trade proposal
being pushed about. Some
say that it will create jobs,
however I think it will do
the complete opposite. If
businesses have to start
spending more to follow
government mandates,
then they will cut in other areas to
off-set that. The biggest expenditure
that a business have control over is
payroll. That means jobs will start
disappearing, much like the democrats
say that the ice caps are.
What they have figured out is
that global warming has become
a big business for them and their
allies. Kind of sounds like global
warming is the democrats “Big Oil.”
The Republicans get eviscerated over
their supposed friendliness with
oil companies, but you never hear
this about the Democrats and global
warming. Al Gore has made a fortune
off those fears. Give him credit in
that he contributes greatly to the
energy companies in his huge monthly
bills for his mansion, he just doesn’t
practice what he preaches to everyone
else. And, seriously, do you ever think
we’ll see a windmill in Cape Cod?
